Bluefield Geoservices (Bluefield), an international subsea geotechnical services provider, recently announced its third survey project offshore the US this season, the latest being an export cable route site investigation off the Northeast US for a major offshore wind project. The campaign will see Bluefield execute in situ cone penetration test (CPT) testing and vibrocorer sampling, onshore and offshore lab testing, and reporting along two power cable routes.
Since its formation in late 2018 in the UK, Bluefield has cultivated an uncompromising reputation for delivering high quality seabed geotechnical data collection services through the deployment of proven site investigation tooling and the development of proprietary seafloor geotechnologies. The firm established operations in the US in 2019 to support the planning and build out of offshore wind infrastructure in the Northeast US by opening an office in Newport, Rhode Island. The office is now home to a growing team of subsea engineers and geotechnical experts.
In response to recent contract awards in the US, Bluefield made further capital investments in 2022 by acquiring the latest geosurvey equipment, including several proprietary systems. Some of the equipment currently deployed in the region include a 100kN Roson CPT system, a high powered electric vibrocorer, a Fielax HeatFlowProbe thermal testing unit, an ROVcone CPT system, and a piston corer.
“Having the right equipment and personnel on the ground enables us to provide our customers with the flexibility and rapid mobilization capacity needed right now in the Northeast US,” said Bruce Pudney, General Manager. “The US offshore wind market demands service providers that are equipped with the latest technology, geotechnical engineering, and field experience capable of supporting complex offshore infrastructure projects.”
Bluefield’s US operation, which also offers a fully integrated approach to multidisciplinary marine survey services through a number of key strategic alliances, including CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA) and Ocean Specialists, Inc. (OSI), is currently recruiting for a number of key senior roles to support the company’s stateside expansion.
