The Piston Core is a geotechnical and geological testing tool designed to obtain an undisturbed core sample from a seabed sediment by the use of a free-falling core barrel mounted to a weight to achieve the required impact force and seabed penetration. The addition of a piston allows the system to reduce the wall friction between the sample liner and the sample.
